Meet the Judges

Marty Mcdonald
Partner & Creative Director 
Egg, Seattle, WA

Marty returns to Honolulu to judge the Peles. He was one of the three advertising judges in 2009-10.

Marty works at the strange intersection of brand development and sustainability. Currently he is the founder and creative director of egg, a 7-year-old sustainable brand development and communications firm whose clients have ranged from next generation renewable energy start-up Southwest Windpower, to industry leaders like Earthbound Farm and Nature's Path Organic foods.

In 2007, egg became the first advertising firm to go carbon neutral and is also a founding B Corp member on the vanguard of business in the "fourth sector. egg was recently nominated for the AIGA (Re)design Awards, and has been featured in Communications Arts and the One Show magazines as a green communications leader.

Marty sits on the Design Committee at Cornish College for the Arts, the Sustainability Committee for the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, and the Alumni Association Board for The Bainbridge Graduate Institute where he received dual certificates in Sustainable Business, and Entrepreneurship.

Rob Tarry
Partner & Creative Director 
Rethink Communications, Vancouver, BC

Rob has been in the ad biz for 15 years, the last 12 of them at Rethink in Vancouver. His work on diverse clients from Sirius Satellite Radio to Science World has been recognized by Communication Arts, Archive, the Clios, Cannes, London International, D&AD and The One Show.

Over the years Rob has consistently ranked among the top writers in Canada, and as a judge he's participated in The Addys, Applied Arts, The Marketing Awards (Canada's national show), The Clios print and One Show radio jury. This year he'll be a part of the upcoming Clios radio jury.

Julie Curtis
Global Copy Chief & Director of Editorial Content 
Shiseido Cosmetics, Tokyo

Julie has been creating authentic, honest voices for brands for more than twenty years. Her work has not only won international, national, regional and local creative awards, it has also won wide consumer bases for new brands, and excited new audiences for tired brands, creating case studies that have turned her colleagues into bigtime CMOs . Julie has been in charge of creative work for companies in virtually every category, including Honda, Nissan, Disney, Shiseido, Panera Bread and La-Z-Boy.

Whether she is creating television commercials, print ads, radio spots, editorial copy, outdoor, in-store, online, email, product pages, press kits, editorial kits, packaging, tutorials, inserts, social media postings or what have you, Julie is inspired to make a consumer's relationship with a brand a rewarding emotional experience.

A resident of Hermosa Beach, California, Julie currently works for Tokyo-based Shiseido Cosmetics.
