2010 Peles - awards and photos

The American Advertising Federation-District 13 presented its 2009–2010 Pele Awards at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Tapa Ballroom on Saturday, April 10, 2010.

The Pele Awards Show recognizes the best advertising and design work produced in Hawaii during calendar 2009. The annual cocktail party and awards presentation was attended by more than 400 individuals in the local advertising, design and media business. The following people were recognized:

Outstanding Young Advertising Person of the Year
:
Tyson Yamada, Pro Forma Favorable Impressions

AAF Hawaii Advertising Woman of the Year
:
Tammy Uy, Creative Director, Milici Valenti Ng Pack

AAF Hawaii Advertising Man of the Year
:
David Rosen, President
, Shooters Film Production

AAF District 13 Silver Medal Award:
Dennis Christianson, President
, Anthology

"The awards are just part of this event.  What's really more important is that we gather like this to share and celebrate some of the best work of Hawaii's advertising and design community. Because every piece of excellent, break-through-the-clutter work that's created by an agency and embraced by a client, opens the path for everyone to do more good work,” said Dennis Christianson, President of Anthology and AAF-District 13’s Silver Medal Winner.  “On the other hand, every piece of junk that's produced lowers our standards, and tells clients that mediocrity is okay. And it's not."

Of the 520 entries received, 50 Pele Awards (Gold ADDY Awards), 85 Silver ADDY Awards (Excellences) and 48 Bronze ADDY Awards (Merits) were presented.

The top two awards of the evening went to the "Best of Show" winners. Sandy Pencil & Wagnervision captured the Advertising Best of Show award for a 15-second television commercial called “Hammock” for Oceanic Time Warner.  Hana Hou! Magazine garnered the Design Best of Show award for their magazine spread “Tree of Plenty.”

Pele Awards is the District 13 (Hawaii) ADDY Awards Competition. Proceeds from the ADDY Awards help support advertising educational programs, public service projects and proactive government-relations efforts.

The ADDY Awards Competition is a three-tiered national competition conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation. Local winners go on to compete in the National ADDY Competition scheduled for June 12, 2010 in Orlando, Florida. The ADDY Awards Competition is the advertising industry's largest and most representative competition for creative excellence.
